Flame-retardant polyester staple fiber technology application and new market trends
Nov 01, 2019
In recent years, with the global improvement of textile safety performance requirements, flame-retardant polyester staple fiber has become a functional fiber that has attracted much attention in the textile industry due to its excellent flame retardancy, heat resistance and environmental protection properties. It is widely used in clothing, home furnishing, industry and other fields, and the market demand continues to grow.
The core technology of flame-retardant polyester staple fiber is to make the fiber not easy to burn under high temperature or flame environment through chemical modification or adding flame retardants, and it can quickly self-extinguish after leaving the fire. The current mainstream production processes include copolymerization modification and finishing methods. Copolymerization modification introduces flame retardant monomers into polyester molecular chains to make the flame retardant performance more durable and stable; while the finishing method gives the fiber a flame retardant effect through impregnation, coating and other methods, which is low in cost but slightly inferior in durability.
In the application field, flame-retardant polyester staple fiber is widely used in flame-retardant protective clothing, home decoration fabrics, automotive interiors and aviation carpets. Especially in the European and American markets, strict flame retardant regulations have driven the demand for high-performance flame retardant fibers. For example, the EU EN 11612 standard has clear requirements for the flame retardant properties of industrial clothing, while the US NFPA 701 standard applies to decorative textiles such as curtains.
Market trends show that environmentally friendly flame-retardant polyester staple fibers are becoming a research and development focus. Although traditional halogen flame retardants are effective, they may release toxic gases when burned, so halogen-free, low-smoke, non-toxic environmentally friendly flame retardants are more popular. In addition, the comfort and durability of the fiber are also of great concern, and its comprehensive performance can be further improved through nanotechnology or composite spinning processes.
In the future, with the improvement of global safety standards and the promotion of green textiles, the market potential of flame-retardant polyester staple fibers will be further released. Enterprises need to keep up with technological trends and optimize production processes to meet the needs of high-performance flame-retardant fibers in different fields.
