Traceable Fibers

Traceable Fibers

CiCLO® fibers (pronounced See-Kloh, meaning "cycle") are polyester or nylon fibers treated with sustainable textile technology. By adding CiCLO® additive during the melting of plastic pellets, it permanently embeds in the fiber matrix, maintaining original performance while enabling gradual biodegradation by microorganisms in natural environments, fundamentally addressing plastic pollution from synthetic fibers.

Product Technology Overview

CiCLO® fibers (pronounced See-Kloh, meaning "cycle") are polyester or nylon fibers treated with sustainable textile technology. By adding CiCLO® additive during the melting of plastic pellets, it permanently embeds in the fiber matrix, maintaining original performance while enabling gradual biodegradation by microorganisms in natural environments, fundamentally addressing plastic pollution from synthetic fibers.

Technical Principles & Key Features

1. Production Process
CiCLO® additive is incorporated during the melt spinning of polyester/nylon pellets, forming permanent bonding at the molecular level to ensure no shedding during washing or friction.

2. Biodegradation Mechanism

  • Working Principle: Utilizes microbial metabolism to decompose fibers into natural basic elements like CO₂, water, and minerals, differing from the fragmenting process of oxo-degradable technologies.
  • Environmental Adaptability: Degrades in soil, seawater, wastewater sludge, landfills, etc., but is not compostable (cannot achieve 90% CO₂ conversion within 180 days).

Core Differences Between Biodegradation & Compostability

Dimension

Biodegradation (CiCLO® Technology)

Compostable Materials

Degradation Environment

Natural environments (soil, seawater, etc.)

Controlled composting facilities (55℃+, aerobic)

Degradation Rate

Polyester CiCLO® fabrics fully degrade in ~3.5 years (lab conditions)

90% carbon converted to CO₂ within 180 days (ASTM D6400)

Final Products

CO₂, water, biomass

Humus for soil amendment

Textile Applicability

Suitable for conventional textile disposal

Not suitable for typical textile waste management

Sustainability Advantages

1. Dual-path Plastic Pollution Reduction

  • Microfiber Pollution Control:

Microplastics shed from traditional synthetic fibers persist in the environment, while those from CiCLO® fibers biodegrade naturally. For example, third-party lab tests show polyester CiCLO® fabrics fully degrade in ~3.5 years, versus only 6% for non-CiCLO® versions*.

  • Waste Textile Disposal:

Non-recyclable CiCLO® fiber products degrade gradually in landfills, wastewater treatment plants, etc., alleviating white pollution.

2. Performance-Eco Balance

  • Function Retention: Maintains high-performance features of polyester/nylon (wicking, stretch, etc.), suitable for outdoor apparel and sportswear.
  • Safety Certification: Production process certified by OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT, ensuring chemical safety for humans and the environment.

FAQ

Q1: Do CiCLO® fibers degrade during use?
A: No. Biodegradation initiates only when fibers enter natural environments, remaining stable during normal use and washing-similar to natural fibers like wool that don't degrade in use.

Q2: How does it differ from other degradation technologies?
A: CiCLO® uses an "outside-in" biological erosion mechanism, mineralizing fibers into basic elements via microbial metabolism, unlike oxo-degradable technologies that fragment plastics under UV/oxygen, potentially creating microplastic hazards.

Q3: How does CiCLO® perform in blended fabrics?
A: CiCLO® fibers can blend with cotton, wool, spandex, etc. Their biodegradability doesn't affect other fibers, while enabling environmental friendliness for blended products after disposal.

Q4: How to verify CiCLO® technology in products?
A: CiCLO® implements a certification traceability program, requiring all certified fiber producers to participate in a tracking system to validate technology presence in every batch.

Technical Compatibility

  • Post-treatment Adaptability: Dyes and finishes compliant with OEKO-TEX®, bluesign®, etc., do not hinder biodegradation. CiCLO® textiles can be safely mineralized into harmless compounds.
  • Recycling Compatibility: Does not interfere with existing textile recycling processes, allowing normal participation in recycling where facilities exist.
