Polyester fiber, commonly known as "terylene", is a common synthetic fiber fabric. Its performance characteristics are closely related to its chemical structure, and it is often blended with natural fibers such as cotton and wool. Its advantages and disadvantages are quite distinct: it excels in durability, wrinkle resistance, easy care, and low cost, making it suitable for making outdoor clothing, sportswear, coats, etc.; however, it has drawbacks such as poor hygroscopicity and breathability, proneness to static electricity, and a relatively hard hand feel in pure spun fabrics.
Advantages:
Strong wear resistance
Polyester fiber has a stable molecular structure and high fiber strength. Its wear resistance is superior to natural fibers like cotton and wool, with strong durability, making it suitable for making frequently used clothing or household items.
Good wrinkle resistance
The fiber has strong elastic recovery ability, so the fabric is not easy to wrinkle. It does not require frequent ironing after washing and has excellent shape retention, making it suitable for daily wear and travel.
Excellent chemical resistance
It has strong resistance to chemicals such as acids, alkalis, and detergents, and is not easily damaged by washing or environmental factors, making maintenance relatively simple.
Moisture and mildew resistance
The fiber has low hygroscopicity, is not easy to absorb water and get moldy, making it suitable for use in humid environments and less likely to breed bacteria.
Affordable price
As a synthetic fiber, its production cost is low, and the fabric price is usually lower than that of natural fibers, offering high cost performance.
Easy to care for
It dries quickly after washing, is not easy to shrink or deform, and is convenient to maintain, meeting the needs of a fast-paced lifestyle.
Disadvantages:
Poor hygroscopicity
The fiber itself has weak water absorption capacity, so it is easy to feel stuffy when worn. Sweat is not easy to evaporate, resulting in low comfort, especially unsuitable for high-temperature environments or close-fitting clothing.
Poor breathability
The fiber structure is dense, so the fabric has poor breathability. Wearing it for a long time may cause a stuffy feeling, and the experience is poor during exercise.
Prone to static electricity
Due to low hygroscopicity, static electricity is easy to accumulate on the fiber surface, causing the fabric to attract dust and cling to the skin, affecting the wearing experience.
Harder hand feel
Pure polyester fiber fabric has a relatively hard hand feel, lacking the soft touch of natural fibers, and some people may find it uncomfortable to wear.
