Trade Data Update: China's Wool Textile Trade Hits $13.3 Billion in Jan-Oct, Demand Structure Shows Subtle Shifts
Nov 27, 2025
Overall Import/Export Value Stabilizes, While Deceleration in Finished Garments Points to Evolving Market Demand in the Winter Apparel Sector
According to China Customs data, the import and export value of wool textile raw materials and products remained stable but registered a slight decline during the first ten months of 2025. The total trade volume reached 13.3 billion (RMB 95.4 billion), marking a 2.5 percent year-on-year decrease. Specifically, exports of wool textile raw materials and products totaled 10.27 billion (down 0.3 percent), and imports amounted to 3.03 billion (down 11.1 percent).
Raw Material Exports Stabilize, Finished Products Decelerate
The data highlights a significant narrowing of the decline in exports of wool raw materials and primary processed products compared to the first half of the year:
- Wool Top: Export volume reached 37,000 tons (down 1.8 percent), with the decline rate narrowing by 5.6 percentage points compared to the first half. Export value hit 310 million (down 5.6 percent).
- Dehaired Wool (Cashmere): Export volume was 2,081 tons (down 15 percent), with the decline rate narrowing by 11 percentage points. Export value reached 200 million (down 16.1 percent).
However, the export momentum for intermediate and finished wool products decelerated compared to the first half of the year:
- Wool Yarn: Export volume increased by 10 percent to 27,000 tons, but the growth rate slowed by 2.5 percentage points. Export value rose by 17 percent to 710 million, with growth slowing by 1.8 percentage points.
- Wool Sweaters: Export volume grew by 13.7 percent to 63.87 million pieces, but the growth rate significantly reduced by 13.8 percentage points. Export value increased by 8.8 percent to 1.09 billion, with growth slowing by 9.6 percentage points.
- Wool Woven Garments: Export volume fell 0.7 percent to 15.28 million pieces, marking an 11.3 percentage point drop compared to the first half. Export value declined by 7 percent to 630 million.
Imports and Demand Shifts
On the import side, China imported 248,000 tons of wool raw materials and primary processed wool in the first ten months (down 9.4 percent). The import of greasy wool accounted for 206,000 tons (down 11.7 percent), continuing the overall narrowing of the decline rate.
The deceleration in finished product growth, particularly for wool sweaters, suggests that downstream manufacturers and retailers may be seeking ways to manage production costs or are shifting consumer demand towards more versatile materials. This creates a significant market opportunity for blending strategies that maintain thermal performance and feel while offering better durability and price stability than 100 percent natural wool.
Blending Solutions: Cost Stability and Functional Performance
The current dynamics in the wool trade-marked by high raw material costs and decelerating finished product growth-underscore the necessity of strategic material blending. As a major supplier of advanced textile fibers in Jiangyin, we provide high-quality synthetic fibers that serve as premium alternatives or ideal blending partners for wool products. Our Polyester and Nylon Staple Fibers are engineered to provide superior durability, enhanced strength, and greater cost stability than natural wool, especially when targeting mid-to-high-end functional apparel. By utilizing our GRS-certified Recycled Polyester (RPET) for blends, manufacturers can create high-performance garments that meet sustainability mandates while effectively controlling material costs.
